Patrick Esson is an expert in reaching agreements with people who have very different starting points. He is known for being able to understand the interests and concerns of people with very different backgrounds and agendas, to think creatively about ways to reconcile seemingly incompatible differences and his ability to build high value and commitment into agreements.
As the leader of negotiations involving all the major players in the New Zealand electricity industry, he developed a widely acclaimed commercial and legal framework for transmission and dispatch of electricity in that country. He has also set up, run and sold a small business.
Patrick has been active as a mediator and negotiation coach since 2002. He is the founder of Aransa and the author of their Guide to Skilful Business Negotiation and the 4 month learning programme of the same name.
